Today's Horror Choices 03/09/17 - Pop It Like It's Corn

The second Thursday of March is considered Popcorn Lover's Day. Obviously, this reminds us that there is in fact a film named Popcorn from 1991 which seems to be about some kind of cursed movie theater or something. Taking this concept a step further, you could always track down the classic Are You Afraid of the Dark? episode titled "The Tale of the Midnight Madness" in which a pair of young teenagers attempt to save their failing movie theater by showing a special print of Nosferatu. The episode features... like... a shot of a character eating some popcorn....

Woooaaah....

Where does all that popcorn come from, though? Why, popcorn comes from corn, of course. Genre fanatics are no stranger to corn, thanks in large part to Stephen King and his story about a dangerous cult of younglings known as the Children of the Corn. The popular film adaptation was released on this day in 1984.

Fear20's own Smacktalker Skywalker has a saying about this, actually. "Nothing good ever happens in corn". If you're still hungry, there are tons of examples of this, from monster movies like Jeepers Creepers 2 and Scarecrow all the way to classic TV episodes like The Twilight Zone: It's a Good Life and Tales From the Crypt: Four-Sided Triangle.

Finally, I'll point out that on this day in 1973, a movie called Okami no Monsho (translated to Horror of the Wolf) was released in Japan. I wasn't able to find the movie or even the trailer easily online, but from the scraps of information that I read, it seems to be a werewolf movie based on a novel written 3 years earlier. It has since been adapted into a manga and anime.
